Strips were cut to replace the ½ inch plywood strips that were originally inserted between the hull and the deck, up under the shoe box deck-to-hull joint. The original strips were made of untreated plywood coated in resin. The new ones are made of ½ inch treated plywood. After they were installed, the portions of the plywood that are exposed on the bottom of the rail were coated with fairing compound to fill any gaps and seal out any water. More on that later.
